Pigeons

The serious and constant public health problems feral pigeons create are unmatched by any other bird species. Pigeons are known to carry or transmit several diseases and their droppings and feathers can contaminate food destined for human consumption. Their droppings deface and accelerate the deterioration of homes and buildings and also contaminate areas where people walk or work. Pigeon droppings and nests clog gutter downspouts and air intakes, mar window sills, and render fireplaces and fire escapes hazardous. Pigeon ectoparasites include chewing lice, ticks, and mites, some of which bite people, which is why pigeon control should always be a priority.

Rodents

Mice can cause structural damage and spread diseases through their parasites and feces. In North America, breathing dust that has come in contact with mouse excrement has been linked to hantavirus, which may lead to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS). Rats are various medium-sized, long-tailed rodents. Rats are typically distinguished from mice by their size. Generally, when someone discovers a large muroid rodent, its common name includes the term rat, while if it is smaller, its name includes the term mouse.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are somewhat generalized insects without special adaptations like the sucking mouthparts of aphids and other true bugs; they have chewing mouthparts and are likely among the most primitive of living neopteran insects. They are common and hardy insects and can tolerate a wide range of environments from Arctic cold to tropical heat.

Wasps

Wasps are considered pests when they become excessively common, or nest close to buildings. People are most often stung in late summer when wasp colonies stop breeding new workers; the existing workers search for sugary foods and are more likely to come into contact with humans. Wasp nests made in or near houses, such as in roof spaces. Stings are usually painful rather than dangerous, but in rare cases, people may suffer life-threatening anaphylactic shock.

Scorpion

Scorpions have eight legs and are easily recognized by the pair of grasping pedipalps and the narrow, segmented tail, often carried in a characteristic forward curve over the back, ending with a venomous stinger.

Mosquitoes

There are over 200 types of mosquitoes in the U.S., 12 of which can carry germs. In addition to diseases like malaria, mosquito bites can spread parasites like heartworm. Over 1 million people die from mosquito bites each year. Many mosquitoes live just a few weeks, but if they find a comfortable home on your property, they can live for six months.
